Critics have described Patricia J. Cink's watercolor paintings as
"vibrant" and add, "She has her own way of seeing colors."
The vibrancy is achieved through the selection of the paper, the
type of watercolor paint, and her way of observing nature. Yupo® is
the paper of choice because the paint sits on the surface, restricting
the amount of paint that can be absorbed into the Yupo® paper. Pat
likes the color transparency, intensity, and consistency of Dr. Ph.
Marten's Hydrus watercolors®. "I use a limited palette and avoid using
black, brown and gray. It is much more interesting to see the red,
blue or yellow in those subdued colors. White is unnecessary with the
Yupo® paper as the paint can be lifted readily to expose the white of
the paper."
"Although I start with reality for subject matter, I am really
looking for clues about light and color relationships. I hope that at
some point as I translate this onto paper, a painting begins to
happen. Then as I continue, I react more to what is happening in the
painting than what is going on with my subject matter." |
